The Simons Summer Research Program gives academically talented, motivated high school students who are between their junior & senior years the opportunity to engage in hands-on research in science, math or engineering at Stony Brook University. Simons Fellows work with distinguished faculty mentors, learn laboratory techniques and tools, become part of active research teams, and experience life at a research university.
Established in 1984, the Simons Summer Research Fellowship Program is supported by the Simons Foundation and individual faculty grants.
June 27- August 12, 2011
Fellows must agree to participate full-time on weekdays during the entire 7-week fellowship period.
High school student applicants must be currently in their junior year and at least 16 years of age by the start of the program. Applicants must be nominated by their school. No exceptions to these requirements.Students interested in science who have demonstrated independence, creativity and an aptitude for doing hands-on work are especially encouraged to apply!
Participants can elect to reside on campus during the program. Typically students return home on weekends; arrangements can be made for out-of-state students. Students who opt to live on campus will be assigned to a double room in a university residence hall, supervised by live-in residence staff and will be responsible for paying their own housing fees prior to the program start date. Students must sign a consent form agreeing to abide by all housing rules.
AWARD: $1,000 stipend.
